shortlengths

I’ve been really into shorts lately, more than any other summer past. They’re easy to pair with other items in my closet and they now come in so many colors, prints, and styles that they’ve become a staple of my summer wardrobe. They also keep me nice and cool in this heat. I used to shy away from shorts because the cuts were unflattering, but I feel that finally there is a cut and length for everyone. For cuts I’ve been loving the assortment of printed, slouchy, mid-rise shorts that seem to be available everywhere. Most have pretty short inseams, but because they have a higher rise they give the allusion of a more modest short. I’m not going to focus too much on rise today, but more on length. I hope that most of you are aware that low rise is not a trend anymore and for most people it’s a look that’s not very flattering – sorry for bursting your bubble if this is news to you.

Inseams are what are going to determine the length of your shorts (inseam: the seam in a pair of pants from the crotch to the bottom of the leg). Shorts usually come in 3″-4″, 5″, and 7″-10″ inseams. Let’s break these inseams down.

3″-4″ inseam

These are your short shorts. Wearing this length has a lot to do with confidence. Do you have great legs and great confidence? Wear them! It wasn’t until last year that I bought myself a pair of these and I rarely wear them because I have to be in just the right mood to put them on. I would suggest wearing these shorts to the beach, pool, and other appropriate outdoor activities. Make sure they cover you well and that nothing is hanging out.

5″ inseam

This length I feel is the most flattering on all women. It shows you have confidence, but also that you are modest. This is the length I most often buy because they’re still fairly short, but don’t make me feel like I’m trying to dress like a teenager. I’m going to assume that most women like this length and the next time you’re short shopping give them a try. You might be surprised on how much more flattering they are than the short or long shorts you’ve been wearing. There’s nothing wrong with showing some leg, ladies.

7″-10″ inseam

I love that this length is now more available. For me, it’s so much more flattering than a bermuda short – which I have to admit I am not a fan of at all. The 7″ inseam is a great length while 10″ is pushing bermuda which is well-suited on women with longer legs. What I also like about this length is that it’s very relaxed. They would be great for travel paired with a tank and some comfortable flats. Makes me want to buy a pair and get away.

Hopefully this gave you a little education on the different inseams that are available. My best suggestion: try all the different inseams on! Don’t just try one. You never know which one is going to be most flattering on you and make you feel great. Have fun with all the prints, colors, and styles that are out right now and stock up on some for the long summer months ahead.
