I’m having a really hard time getting off the subject of summer here. Maybe it’s because I’m dreaming of beach days filled with boogie boarding with my niece and nephews – salt air, sun, and fun. I’m uncertain when these days are going to come, but I’m not sure I can give up on this dream just yet. I’m launching the next installment of my building blocks posts with summer-friendly items you’ll need to get you through the hot summer months. I love a good chambray shirt. It’s easy to throw on over an outfit if you’re chilled from the AC or if your summer nights actually cool down. It’s nice to have as an extra layer to keep you warm when the temps cool down in the evening (this does not happen in FL). My favorite way to wear chambray is tucked into some printed shorts or over a dress. Nowadays there are tons of options which makes it easy for you to get one you truly love and one that fits. Here are a few tips on finding the best chambray shirt for you.
1. Buy a size up. I know this sounds insane, but you don’t want your chambray tight. You want it loose and relaxed. This will make whatever outfit you add it to feel easy, less fussy, and be much more comfortable for you to wear.
2. Just like in my dark skinny jeans post, stay away from heavy whiskering or the dirty/dingy look. It’s not attractive. One that looks well worn is different than one that just looks dirty. I think you know the type I’m talking about.
3. Avoid excessive bedazzling. If you want some bling, make sure it’s not overwhelming. Here’s a good option.
4. Buy a few different ones. I have three that are all different shades of chambray. They get rotated frequently because I’m always grabbing one to complete my outfit.
